“No Shows” at Events

Recently, we introduced a token charge of £5 to discourage “no shows” at events. It has had some positive impact, but we have still had “no shows” at events. This is particularly disappointing at events such as the Winfield House Tour that sell out very quickly and have a waiting list.

It is unfair to others if you do not let us know you are not coming, as your place could have gone to someone on the waiting list. Please bear this in mind as you plan your attendance.

FREE Bandstand Concerts

Starts from Saturday 22nd June

Our Jazz on the Broadwalk starts with The Adam Thomas Quintet and our Sunday season begins with Queens College Brass (Harley Street) and the London Youth Concert Band. A great start to the season with young people making the music. For more information, visit our Music page for the full schedule.

The Secret Garden Concerts

Tuesday 30th July - Sunday 4th August

The Secret Garden series will turn this wonderful hidden garden into a paradise of music with something for everyone.

Performances will range from Open Air to Covered, taking place in the Park. Tickets are on sale now – and members receive a 25% discount on 5 of the performances!

Gazebo Volunteering

Sign Up started on May 1st

I am pleased to announce that the legal formalities regarding the donation of the Citroen Hy Van are complete and it now belongs to the Friends. Repairs to the van will begin soon, but it is unlikely to be ready for this season. For now, the canvas Gazebo will continue to be our “Visitor Centre” at Clarence Gate every Saturday, Sunday, and Bank Holiday Monday from 22 June to 22 September.

We are asking volunteers to sit in the Gazebo for a morning or afternoon “shift” welcoming visitors to the Park, and supplying them with maps, directions, posters etc. and, if relevant, signing them up as new Members. Many of you have done this and “know the ropes” – but if you are a new volunteer, don’t worry, we shall train you.

Gazebo Manager Needed!

Whilst we are looking for Gazebo staff, we are also looking for a “Gazebo Manager”. This will be someone who perhaps has experience organising volunteer staff, checking supplies, training new volunteers etc. It’s a bit like managing a charity shop! Please contact chair@friendsofregentspark.org if you think this is for you.

Finally, we need 4 people to help with the Gazebo at the St John’s Wood Fair on Sunday 9 June 12.00 to 17.00. If you are interested, please contact chair@friendsofregentspark.org.

Bandstand Volunteering

Sign Up started on May 1st

Bandstand concerts will start on Saturday 22nd June, until 22nd September.  As in previous years, we need a minimum of one assistant to help our Bandstand Managers set up the site, help the bands arrive and depart and generally help with the audience. If you can do this, please sign up below.

Chit Chat - Summer Hours

Come along to Chit Chat and meet many interesting people! On Tuesdays from 3 to 5pm at the Primrose Hill Café. Enjoy the company and get a free drink and cake from Benugo and our Sponsor Wallacea Homes. Dogs are welcome – this week we had 6!

A casual catch-up with no regular commitment, fees or pressure. Come and join us!

Playground Renovations

Hanover Gate

The Hanover Gate Playground is closed for renovations but will open very soon. New additions will include a rope playhouse and a trampoline plus a water-play feature with a raised table that will be wheelchair accessible to ensure that children of all abilities can play together.

New planting will improve the site’s biodiversity, providing children with the opportunity to connect with nature. Popular existing features such as the climbing frame, sandpit and swings will be retained.

Wildflower Planting Days

Sunday 12th May - 11am to 3pm

Wednesday 15th May - 5pm to 7pm

The Royal Parks “Help Nature Thrive” team is organising  hands-on planting of wildflowers to brighten up some of the grassland and would love your help. Did you know the UK has lost 97% of its wildflower meadows in the last century?

These incredible habitats are not only beautiful to look at but provide homes and food for some of our most spectacular wildlife including bumblebees, butterflies and so much more!

On 12th May drop in anytime between 11am – 3pm, by entering the gate next to Ormonde Terrace, look out for the colourful flag banners and head for the top left area of the Park just above Barrow Hill Reservoir.

On 15th May drop in anytime between 5pm – 7pm, at the Ready Money Fountain
For more information, go to helpnaturethrive@royalparks.org.uk

Rose Perfume Lecture

(in French!)

The Franco-British Society have invited a famous expert on rose perfumes to speak to their group on Wednesday May 8th. One or two places are available to fluent French speakers. It will include a tour of the rose gardens. For more information, please contact info@franco-british-society.org

We are making changes to our website and have hired a consultant to make them. We lack a member on our Committee who knows WordPress well and can oversee system changes and content management on a regular basis. If this is you, please contact chair@friendsofregentspark.org
