Volunteer with The Friends

So many of our members say the reason they joined the Friends was to ‘give something back’. You can do that by volunteering at our summer music festival, at our gazebo to help visitors find their way, bulb planting perhaps, or on the allotment…the choice is yours but you will be sure to gain as well as give back.

Gazebo and Bandstand Volunteering

Gazebo

The Gazebo operates on Saturday’s Sundays and Bank Holiday Monday from mid-June to mid-September. Operating hours are 10.00 to 16.30. Each day, we require requires at least 2 volunteers for morning and afternoon sessions to provide information to park visitors.

The Gazebo is transported at 10.00 to the chosen site (usually at Clarence Gate) by Idverde staff who erect it, although they may need a little help from the volunteers. Idverde staff dismantle it and take it away at about 16.45. It has a display table and chairs, and water is provided (needed on very hot days) as well as a first aid kit. It is also supplied with emergency contact numbers such as the Park Duty Officer, Police and Friends contact numbers.

The bandstand hosts free concerts every year during The Regent’s Park Music Festival. drawing audiences of up to 1000 people for each performance. In 2023, 20,000 people listen to the Bandstand music. Performances last all afternoon from 12.00 to 17.00 on Sundays and Bank Holiday Monday, and 14:00 to 16:00 on Saturdays. Programmes are varied and include local Concert Bands, Jazz Big Bands, small groups, and Choirs – entertainment perfect for summer picnics and outings.

We help the park with a minimum of one volunteer assistant, who alongside our Bandstand Managers set up the event site and help the bands arrive and depart, and will aid the audience.
