Music at Regent's Park

The Regent’s Park is near the Royal Academy of Music and is music-centric. In collaboration with ‘Regent’s Park Music Festival’, we organise one of the largest free music festivals in the UK, June through September. You’ll find opera, jazz and Shakespeare too. The Open Air Theatre is world renowned for its breath-taking performances.  For a more contemplative musical experience, try our Musicfortrees app. How splendid is that?

The Bandstand

Since 2023, 2 bandstands- the main one on Holme Green and the small “bandstand” on the Broadwalk, host 45 concerts over 15 weekends from June to September, with over1200 performers playing to more than 20,000 spectators.

On Saturdays, on the small Bandstand, there is “Saturday Jazz on the Broadwalk” and on Sundays on the main Bandstand there are two concerts featuring Jazz Big Bands, Concert Bands, Brass Bands and Choirs.  About 4 times a year there is “Swing Sunday” when lessons are given in Swing dancing and the audience is encouraged to join in.

Look out for Performances from...

Founded in 1932 to promote English folk music and folk dance, they champion the folk arts at the heart of England’s diverse cultural landscape.

Members include thousands of folk artists who are active as amateurs and professionals. They also include dance or song clubs, schools, festivals and other organisations.

Opera company Opera Brava perform in the Open Air Theatre. Normally, two performances take place annually on the Nannies Lawn (next to the Open Air Theatre) within the Inner Circle.

They showcase the joys and magic of Opera to inspire others, and strive for accessible and affordable entertainment.

One of the major bands from the British Army, The Waterloo Rifles entertain audiences all over Europe. Every year, they perform for the Bandstand Memorial Day.

This service is dedicated to the seven bandsmen of the Royal Green Jackets who died – and in honour of the many who were wounded – in an IRA attack on the bandstand, 20th July 1982.

Regent's Park Lit - A Literature and Music Compendium

Reglit - Music - Activities & Events

The Reglit site, created by the late John Black in 1992, started out as a commemorative essay for his sister, since both had grown up around Regent’s Park.

From a young age, he collected artistic mentions of the area. The site lists all musical and literary references to both Regent’s Park and Primrose Hill. It features songs in which musicians old and new reference different parts of the landscape – citing musicians such as Madness, Fatboy Slim, Red Hot Chilli Peppers, The Rolling Stones and Loudoun Wainwright III.

It also notes literary references, from William Blake and Virginia Woolf to Sylvia Plath – once a resident of Primrose Hill – who have set poems and novels in and around the Park. John Black took joy in celebrating every artistic mention of the place, and catalogued it for the future generations.
