Bring your own materials, water colours, pencils or pastels and a chair if required. This will be a highly enjoyable artistic session in the open air. 10 places – 8 Friends, 2 Friends’ guests.

Boating on the Lake

Wednesday 18 June, 4:30 p.m. – 8:00 p.m.

There is nothing better on a summer evening than “messing about on the river”. In Regent’s Park we do not have a river but we do have two boating lakes, one of which is for small children.

The Royal Parks have generously offered to Friends and their families a free half-hour session on each lake on this evening. Come and pedal or row. Food and drink will be available from the Boat House Café (which will not be free). Last boats at 7:30 p.m. Free to Friends and their family. No guests.

1. Friends who wish to come, with or without families, must register in advance. Registration is necessary to enable the operators to have sufficient boats available to avoid queueing. Registration will close on 30 May.
2. Please remember to bring with you proof of Friends membership.

Whilst the majority of the walk will be inside the Park, it will include some of the Nash Terraces as these feature blue plaques commemorating notable medical figures from the last two centuries. Also featured would be The Broadwalk, Queen Mary’s Gardens, the Rose Garden, Marylebone Green and the Boating Lake, amongst other stops. 25 places – 23 Friends, 2 guests.

Volunteer to help the Park

As the weather warms up the demands on the Parks’ litter picking team can become overwhelming and that’s where the Friends step in to aid in their efforts to keep the park a clean, safe and welcoming place.

We have around 30 active litter pickers who put in about 100 hours during the summer at a time to suit their individual schedules. If you have a little time to spare why not consider litter picking? You can learn more here.

LitterPicking

Starting in May, the Bandstand team will be looking for Bandstand Managers to undergo training sessions to learn how to manage a Saturday (about 3 hours) or Sunday (about 6 hours). Assistants will be provided to help the Band Managers who handle the arrival of the bands, making sure the bandstand is set up (banners, donation boxes, chairs, PA kit etc) then making announcements, taking videos and generally making sure that everyone has a great afternoon.

There are no age limits – anyone from 18 to 80 can do it. You get to listen to some great music, meet the musicians, chat to the audience and get some donations for the festival Charity. Please contact the following email to apply:

Rambling Rosie - Visitor Van Volunteers!

Be part of a great team of Friends who staff our Visitor Information Van aka Rambling Rosie. We operate on weekends and Bank Holiday Mondays from 21 June through 21 September.

Volunteering slots occupy three hours so we need two volunteers in the morning from 10:30-1:30 and two 1:30 – 4:30. We have two amazing support staff from the park that tow her into position and help us set up if that is required. Inside the van, everything is kitted out and easy to find – a place for everything and everything in its place.

The Rambling Rosie

Volunteers say:

‘It gives me a strong sense of community and belonging’
‘I learn more and more about the park every time I volunteer’
‘I know that I am helping make someone’s visit more enjoyable’
‘I meet some amazing people and learn things about the park I never knew before.’

There are four experienced van managers who will oversee and are on call for each weekend shift.  There is a comprehensive manual on site and additional training can be arranged if you require it.  You just need a decent knowledge of the park and be willing to learn more. Sign up here.

Royal Parks Updates

Update on Park Policing

According to PC Christian Roberts policing of Regents Park and Primrose Hill will continue this summer, however the police will all be moved into new roles by the 1st November. Roberts says ‘We have fewer numbers than last year as some colleagues have moved already into new roles however we will ensure the best coverage of policing we can although with fewer officers. I will be abstracted more this year to staff up other teams but we will do our best to keep peace and order’.

He continues, ‘However already crime has been up on last year with warm late spring weather during April and early May. Distraction theft has been the main crime throughout Regent’s Park and Primrose Hill. Victims are being distracted on the grass in Avenue Gardens and Queen Marys Gardens by suspects begging for food or some money but distracting the victim and taking their mobile phone which has been left on the grass.’

Other News you need to Know…

Residents in Primrose Hill have been disturbed by noise on the Hill, groups playing loud music during the recent warm weekends. So, our word to the Friends is to be vigilant and be aware – especially of distraction theft which increases as the good weather inspires many to get out and enjoy the park.
