Nocturnal Nature Walk

Thursday 29th August, 7:30pm

As everyone files out of the park, come on in and join Charlotte Cass for a walk at dusk, just as the park’s nocturnal creatures are coming out to feed.  Be guided through Regent’s Park in search of bat species, spiders building their nests, toads crossing roads and foxes.  Charlotte will tell you all about the adaptations that nocturnal creatures use to hunt and survive in the darkness plus the issues many of these threatened animals face. Bat detectors and torches will be provided.  Event could be cancelled at short notice if weather is foul, so please include your phone number when booking. Bat detectors provided.

Chocolate Tasting (in conjunction with Firtree Chocolate Ltd.

Thursday 14th November, 7.30pm – 8.30pm

Yes, you have read the title of this event correctly. This is a Zoom event in your own home during which you taste chocolate!

The aim of this event is to give an informative fun look at what makes top quality bean to bar chocolate, how it is made and how to enjoy and appreciate chocolate made from some of the world’s rarest cocoa beans.

Here is how it will work:

  • When you apply for this event you will need to give us your postal address.
  • Shortly before the event you will receive in the post a Tasting Bar Gift Box containing seven single state chocolate bars and tasting sheets.  Each box caters for two people.
  • The event is hosted by Martyn, Firtree’s Chocolate Maker, who will show short video clips of their farmers, their cocoa forms and how cocoa is grown, harvested, fermented and dried.
  • An expert will then show you how to taste and appreciate the different chocolates using 3 or 4 of the bars you have been sent, before you embark on a virtual journey around the exotic volcanic islands from which the cocoa beans are sourced.

There will be time for questions and answers at the end.

You might ask what this has to do with The Regent’s Park? Well, the Friends are interested in flora, chocolate comes from plants. Who knows, with global warming, perhaps in the years to come we may be growing cocoa beans in the Park! We all love chocolate and it’s a fun way to end the year – you will also have chocolate left over to eat at your pleasure.

COST: £25 for a Tasting Box – This serves 2 people.

Places: Unlimited – Ensure we have your full postal address.

Closing date for applications: October 14th
