Autumn Bulb Planting

Autumn Bulb Planting - Volunteering - The Friends

Last year in October and November, 4 teams of Friends of Regent’s Park volunteers, supervised by Assistant Park Manager Mark Rowe and his colleague Phil Pearl, planted thousands of spring bulbs in The Winter Garden at the entrance to the Park near Winfield House.

Armed with trowels, long-handled bulb planters, and plenty of determination and grit, the teams filled flower beds and patches of lawn with a total of 16,900 bulbs that will fill the garden with colour and fragrance in spring 2022.

The Friends of Regent’s Park paid £1,777 for the bulbs, and wish to thank all the volunteer planters, Mark and Phil from the Park team, and the Friends team leaders Nancy Janin, Russell Davies, and Odile Lombard.

I was pleased to notice that I had no aches and pains this morning. It was an enjoyable and satisfying day out, meeting friendly and interesting people. The work is an ice breaker. I certainly look forward to my next day.

I can say, it was an absolute joy, to spend a day with like minded people in one of London’s most beautiful parks ,feeling as if my few hours of contribution may be enjoyed by many. I spend hours in the park daily, with my puppy Murphy, and this, perhaps, was my small way of giving back and saying thank you to all those working so hard behind the scenes to create and maintain such splendour.
